ABOUT ME, AYAUNA ANDREWS
I am an aspiring Character and Concept artist who graduated from college with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Art and Design, a focus in Illustration and a secondary focus in Graphic Design. I plan on working in animation as a concept artist for cartoons and videogames but I also want to write and illustrate children's books and freelance commissions. I work both digitally and traditionally; sometimes simultaneously. I also minored in music, mainly to continue working as a composer taking commissions for compositions as well as teaching private lessons to beginners in piano, clarinet, and guitar. It sounds like a great deal but I see myself equally as an artist, musician and writer.
As an artist, I allow my inner child to take over and my imagination to run rampant. I am a child at heart and, in the long run, want to have a positive effect on children with my art. So, I focus on illustration in animation, specializing in concept art. My concept art includes character design, environment/background design, storyboard design, and prop design. I focus on this because of my fondness for cartoons and video games, my love of stories and their connection with art and my love of turning just a few words and ideas into a detailed artistic statement. Creating people and situations and making completely new worlds with art is what I like best, which is why I choose to go down the path of animation. My preferred media are digital, pencil, ink, and watercolor. I often use a mix of them because I believe the versatility of mixed-media helps me to portray my ideas best. The fluidity and hand-drawn feel of traditional media mixed with the cleanliness and sharpness of digital media enhance my overall artistic concept.
I am influenced mainly by artists and styles from several animations and video games including Yoshitaka Amano’s work in “Final Fantasy,” as well as the styles in “Sailor Moon,” “Legend of Zelda,” “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends,” “Adventure Time”, and “The Amazing World of Gumball.” Even though I usually stick closer to a cartoon style, my style of art tends to be very eclectic. It often ranges from a dark, spooky style, to a light pastel style, to a bright and colorful style or even a mix of all three. I even draw realistic and semi-realistic pieces from time to time. Because of this, I can change my drawing style very easily to fit different types of styles. I consider myself a versatile artist!
